WBA Plessa wastewater treatment plant

In September 2022, C.F. Maier completed a major project at the WBA Plessa water treatment plant in Brandenburg. The order comprised three sludge thickeners, each with an internal diameter of 18 meters and an external diameter of 19.10 meters. The central concrete bridges in each basin have a width of 2.12 meters.

The Ha5 cover system was used for this project, which consists of eight large, barrel-shaped shells per basin as the main supporting elements, supplemented by flat elements in between. To ensure thermal insulation, the entire cover was constructed with sandwich elements and internal PU foam.

The individual cover components were lifted to a height of around 6 meters and installed using a mobile crane.

Peine sewage treatment plant

In February 2021, C.F. Maier was commissioned by Kögel Bau GmbH & Co. KG to supply a GRP cover for a large combined tank at the Peine sewage treatment plant. The basin, with a diameter of 40 meters, is divided into a primary clarifier and an aeration basin and covers a total area of 1,200 square meters.

Two different types of cover were used for the implementation in order to meet the specific requirements of the inner and outer areas of the basin. The Ha5 type with barrel-shaped and flat elements was used in the inner area, while the Af+Aa type with trapezoidal barrel shells and flat elements arranged in between was used in the outer ring. The project was realized in a three-color concept.

Erfurt sewage treatment plant

In February 2022, C.F. Maier was awarded the contract to roof a large circular tank, or more precisely a secondary thickener, at the Erfurt sewage treatment plant. The tank has an internal diameter of 16 meters and a covered area of 232 square meters.

Sandwich elements with 60 mm thick PU foam insulation were used for this project. Type D2 was used, consisting of four barrel shells, each 1,000 mm high and 16.30 meters long. Due to their size, special transportation was required. The project was completed in October 2022.

Weilheim sewage treatment plant

In February 2022, C.F. Maier was commissioned by Stadtwerke Weilheim to supply and install the covers for two almost identical circular thickener tanks. The basins have an internal diameter of 6.63 meters and 7.00 meters.

In order to meet the requirements, the covers had to be raised by 700 mm. This was achieved with the help of specially manufactured, vertically curved flat elements on which the actual covers were installed. Type D2 was used, which consists of two barrel shells and flat elements in between. The total area covered is 121 square meters. The project was completed in October 2022.

Petingen wastewater treatment plant in Luxembourg

C.F. Maier's covering systems are not only used in Germany, but also internationally, for example at the Petingen sewage treatment plant in Luxembourg. This extensive contract, awarded by Zahnen Technik GmbH, involved covering several basins, channels and shafts that had to be covered during ongoing operations.

Due to the size and complexity of the project, implementation was planned in several construction phases, with unforeseen changes and the COVID-19 pandemic extending the project period into 2023. A total of 900 square meters were covered, including a two-stream grit chamber with over 300 square meters, where the proven slotted cover was used.

Cologne-Stammheim sewage treatment plant

C.F. Maier was commissioned to roof a screw pumping station at the Cologne-Stammheim sewage treatment plant. The order comprised four chambers, each 3.80 meters wide and around 10 meters long.

The particular challenge was that the chambers run upwards at an angle from around half their length, so the covers had to make a "kink" to follow this gradient. The rectangular panels were anchored to GRP brackets that were mounted on the edges of the basins, allowing a total area of 167 square meters to be covered.
